About Galleys to Rails

The name Galleys to Rails honors the arc of human innovation—from the wind-powered ships of the 17th century to the steam locomotives that forged new frontiers. Just as those vessels transformed exploration and commerce, our work seeks to bridge the past and present through objects of lasting beauty.

Each piece—whether it’s a charcuterie board, cutting board, or handcrafted display train—is inspired by that transition. The elegant lines of a seagoing galley and the precision of early American locomotives guide both the aesthetic and intention behind our designs.

Made in the U.S.A.

Every piece begins at a bench where tradition meets precision.

Galleys to Rails is more than a woodworking studio—it’s a tribute to the ingenuity, endurance, and spirit of American craftsmanship. Founded and operated by Hugh, a U.S. Army veteran, the workshop reflects a life shaped by discipline, design, and a deep respect for tradition.

Every item is handcrafted in Cave Creek, Arizona, using carefully selected hardwoods—North American Walnut, Maple, Cherry, and exotic accents like Padauk, and Purple Heart. Finishes are simple and food-safe: hand-sanding, mineral oil, and beeswax polish.
